Question...what kind of world are we living in when the student "discount" price for a movie is .50 cents cheaper than a regular movie ticket?!!! What part of broke college graduate do these people not understand? Ok...got that out of my system.
Well, I gave my self a well-needed break today, and decided to go home to see the parental units. So began the trip; spending 2 hours in a car with the sun beating down on my legs and cooking them like two briskets in the refreshing 100 degree weather. Meanwhile the radio stations decided that the world hasn't heard "If I die young" enough times that they should then play it until you feel like performing a lobotomy on yourself to keep from hearing it ever again. Anyway, I digress.
Has anyone ever tried selling something to an antique store? I did today. Any guesses on how it went? Here's a clue, despite popular belief, watching multiple hours of "American Pickers", "Pawn Stars" or "Antiques Roadshow" doesn't mean you know as much as you think you do about antiques.
So, flash forward to me walking in with my bag of antiques I was looking to sell (yes I am that set on purging) hoping to make a buck. No such luck. I have never felt so...let's not say stupid, let's call it..."appraisal-ly challenged." Apparently my taste in antiques is limited to MY taste in antiques and not the professional world of desirable trinkets. They didn't want anything. Not my cute little Tiffany blue teapot, or my records or my oddly shaped vase with the Italian makers mark on the bottom (isn't it proof enough that I know what I'm talking about based on the fact that I know what a makers mark is...apparently not) Oh History Channel how you have deceived me. So while I'm unwrapping my items, these two old bitties behind the counter are just standing there looking at me as if I had brought in a collection of bellybutton lint to sell. So off to the garage sale pile my treasures go...leaving me once again to live up to my status of broke college graduate paying .50 cents less for a movie ticket. *insert heavy sigh here*
